Mission Statement
Potters Without Borders was formed out of our desire to establish a Canadian organization as a part of an international non-profit network capable of providing socially responsible assistance to pottery groups and individuals. A group of like minded friends work to establish PWB as a non-governmental organization. We provide support to field technicians who respond to direct requests to develop ceramic water filter manufacturing facilities overseas. We also offer technical training and consulting services and facilitate research, development, and commercial application of ceramics technology in developing countries.
Potters Without Borders is developing a mission statement in preparation for the establishment and filing of our legal status. Towards this end I am hoping that we can use this site to share our views about the new organization.
I would suggest that the new organization be involved in assistance in the developing world focused on appropriate technology in the area of ceramics.
We will also aim to advance the development of porous ceramic water filters.
The organization will maintain an open-source ethic and share our information with all interested people.
this is pfp’s:
We seek to build an independent, nonprofit, international network of potters concerned with peace and justice issues. We will maintain this
concern principally through interchanges involving potters of the (overdeveloped) North and (underdeveloped) South. PFP aims to provide socially responsible assistance to pottery groups and individuals in their search for stability and improvement of ceramic production, and in the preservation of their cultural inheritance. ”
How about something like (very rough-needs editting) :
Potters Without Borders aims to provide socially responsible assistance to potters (individuals and groups) in their search for economic stability. Intentions are to provide accompanyment through long or short-term consultancies in the areas of:
improvement of ceramic production,
introduction of energy efficient techniques,
introduction of fuel efficient, sustainable, environmentally safe technology, and via dissemination of open source ceramic water filter technology.
I like what samantha has, as well I think that the last line of Burt’s: “The organization will maintain an open-source ethic and share our information with all interested people.” should be included.
